Freezing Plant

Completed in 1953, the Freezing Plant is located in the Wholesale Market area in Kalasatama. The Freezing Plant features leasable freezing, cold and dry storage facilities ranging from pallet spaces and small storages to larger warehouse facilities for food industry businesses. Note! In addition to storage facilities, the building features freezing tunnels in which the temperature of products is lowered to -40 °C and a wind tunnel in which the storage temperature is lowered to -20 °C.

More than 100 different businesses are leasing facilities at the Freezing Plant. More than 11.5 million kilograms of food items pass through the Freezing Plant every year.

Helsinki City Premises Ltd is responsible for the Freezing Plant’s cold production, maintenance and customer service. Helsinki City Premises does not own the stored products at any point. Instead, the company serves as a logistics service provider between the supplier and the recipient.

Services at the Freezing Plant

Leasable storage cages and rooms The Freezing Plant features freezing (-20 °C) and cold (+4 °C) storage cages and rooms of different sizes. The access control system gives lessees access to the facilities 24/7. If necessary, the Freezing Plant staff can help with tasks such as receiving or transferring goods for an additional fee.

Pallet spaces in the service storage The Freezing Plant features leasable freezing, cold and dry pallet spaces. We handle both EUR and FIN pallets. Pallet space sizes: 1.20–2.20 m. The Freezing Plant staff operate storage functions such as the reception and collection of goods. Our customer portal enables customers to administrate and monitor what is happening in the storage.

Freezing In addition to storage facilities, the Freezing Plant features freezing tunnels in which the temperature of products is lowered to -40 °C and a wind tunnel in which the storage temperature is lowered to -20 °C. The quick freezing process facilitates preserving the quality of the product at an optimal level.

Waste management Freezing Plant customers can join the local waste management agreement if they so choose. The separately collected waste types are mixed waste, energy waste, biowaste, cardboard, waste paper, office paper, clean wood waste and metal. Class 3 by-products can also be disposed of at the waste station.

The Freezing Plant office is open on normal working days at 6.00–16.30.
